Because the South Yorkshire Transport Museum is proudly run entirely by dedicated volunteers, we open our doors to the public one special day each month— making every visit feel like an event.

🚍 Join Us on Our Monthly Open Days

On the second Sunday of every month, we host our themed Open Days— your opportunity to explore the museum, see our historic vehicles up close, enjoy the atmosphere, and experience South Yorkshire’s transport heritage in action.

These days are designed to give you the very best experience possible, with volunteers on hand to chat, share stories, and bring the collection to life.

📅 Visiting at Other Times

We’re also delighted to welcome:

  • School groups

  • Corporate visits

  • Community organisations

  • Pre-booked private tours

These visits can be arranged by prior appointment to ensure we can give you the time and attention you deserve.

🔧 Why Appointments Matter

On regular working days, our volunteers are often busy behind the scenes restoring vehicles, carrying out maintenance, operating machinery, or carefully moving historic vehicles within the building.

If you arrive without an appointment, we may not be able to show you around — not because we don’t appreciate your interest, but because your safety is our priority. With active workshop projects and vehicle movements taking place, we want to ensure every visitor can explore the museum safely and enjoyably.

Our volunteers are always genuinely pleased to see interest in the museum and the collection. By visiting on an Open Day or arranging an appointment in advance, you’ll help us provide the best possible experience — and allow our team to share their passion with you properly.

We look forward to welcoming you soon!
